Your car’s windshield becomes very dirty very quickly and a spritz of Windex isn’t going to do the trick; in fact, because it is made with ammonia, it leaves streaks which can cause a glare in direct sunlight making it almost impossible to see through; that’s a safety hazard and Windex can even ruin tinted windows.

Plain water can be used but it is about as effective as nothing since most things that your windshield catches become hard and bonded to the glass as if it were glued on. That is why it is important to use fluid made specifically for cleaning your car’s windshield. Washer fluid is made up of detergent which breaks the bond between the glass and what is on it, such as bugs, oil, and road dirt, making it easier to remove, an anti-freeze ingredient for obvious reasons, and some type of diluting liquid, usually distilled water.

Obviously, it cannot be over-stressed how important this specialized cleaner is when it comes to safety on the road and your ability to see clearly.
